Should be enough rarities on this to keep collectors happy (though contrary to the blurb, Horace Andy's Illiteracy was reissued not so long ago). The Mystic Revelations Of Rastafari – Let Freedom Reign is the original of Gumbay Jump on one of the Studio 1 dub albums (also on Soul Jazz's Studio One Instrumentals Vol. 2).

I am 50+ and becoming deaf is in the genes but I am imagining myself the SoulJazz releases usually have a better sound quality than the re-issues of studio one by yep roc or whatever they are called.

Most of their stuff is on Spotify, but some select albums are blocked for some reason (for example the Dancehall, Jump Up, Dub Fire Special and Showcase volumes).

Thanks. I had a look on Spotify, Apple Music etc. however there are a limited number of Soul Jazz discs available for streaming.

On a side note I remember buying two Soul Jazz CD's years and years ago when they first begin their reissue program. Studio One Roots and also Studio One Dub. I dug them out and am playing the Roots CD now - absolutely love it. A look at their website shows there is a volume 2 and volume 3. Does anyone know how these are? Excellent as well?

How does this new two volume Black Man's Price compare to the Studio One Roots sets mentioned above?

If you like Soul Jazz Studio 1 Roots volume 1 then you will probably enjoy 2 and 3. From memory I think volume 2 was better than 3 but volume 3 has a clean version of Judah Eskender Tafari's Jah Light so worth the price of admission by that alone for these ears.

I'd say the majority of their releases are available (of course this will differ depending on where you are). I actually have a Spotify playlist of all the Soul Jazz Studio One releases, and besides the four I mentioned the only others that are blocked are the Kings, Dub and Story volumes (the three Roots volumes for example are available).

The Soul Jazz releases all very good sound quality usually from masters so no horrible clicks or background noise compared to the studio one 7 inches.
