OT, but useful - Microsoft antispyware programme?

Postby Anonymous » Tue Jan 11, 2005 10:13 am

Microsoft have a free download of an antispyware programme, which seems to be catching more stuff than Spybot in the few days I've been trying it:
BBC article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4151457.stm
Download at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en
- it's over 6Mb
Anyone with knowledge/opinions on this?

Is this program better than the two well known ones, Ad-Aware and Spybot?

Any users of any of these have some recommendations on what to use to clean up the PC from such unwanted files?I never used none of these, so any info appreciated.

i have both but stick with Spybot, it catches more than ad-aware does and i don't even double check with ad-aware anymore

if microsoft has developed a software more user friendly and efficient than similar nerd shareware, then it's a first!

Good advice would be to download some kind of anti-spyware programme, and update and run it regularly (in conjunction with anti-virus and firewall, of course). A combination of Ad-Aware (run very occasionally) and Spybot (run more regularly, coz its scan's a lot faster) works for me.
