Recommended Philly soul collections

Postby Chocolate Soldier » Wed Dec 29, 2004 8:06 pm

I thought I posted already but maybe not,
Can someone steer me in the right direction?
Want to check out some Philly soul eg: the type that would have influenced Sly Dunbar, Bunny Lee & the rest of Jamaican music..
Any essential collections or box sets I might find on EBAY?
Thnx!

Not as essential as the Stax Singles Box, but pretty nice and recommended:
The Philly Sound - Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff & The Story Of Brotherly Love (1966-1976), 3 cd-box, Sony Music 1997
And check out the 2 comps. on Soul Jazz too:
Philadelphia Roots Vol.1 & 2(1965-73)

Norman Jay's Philly collections are interesting, include standards and less familiar stuff. He used to archive a couple of great shows of Philly music on his website, might still be there.
