Did anyone go to the Jah Shaka record auction?

If so, what was it like - attendance, final prices, frenzied bidding wars, etc?

I was going to ask exactly those same questions... who knows the answer?

I was there. Seemed to be surprisingly few people. I was expecting a bigger crowd. Prices didn't went that high, I suppose. I couldn't hear the final prices to all the tunes, but the starting price for many of them was around £25, and didn't usually get much higher, as far as I know.

I had to leave around midnight, and by that time Shaka had reached record #70. I suppose they couldn't get through the whole list of over 400 items...

I was there mostly just listening to music, not really bidding myself. Seems like some other people were doing the same. We got to hear some really tough tunes, so I enjoyed myself. Norman Grant of the Twinkle Brothers was there too, by the way.

Thanks Olli.

I was going to make this, but was a bit put off by the 5 quid entrance fee. But then I wouldn't have bid anyway (at least I hope not!).

Did Penny get the tune he was after?

BTW - I was curious too how these record auctions went..

I would go if I were in London..

Do you think Shaka just needs to clear out some space or is it another sign o' the times in the music biz? Eg: Having to think of innovative ways to earn extra wonga cuz no one aint making none no more,,, innit..
