Everything Aba ariginals touched sounds great.

Nadia Harris Mcanuff dropped two killer vocals, Home away from home and Marcus Garvey.

Jah Massives 12" with Anthony Que - Burn babylon is also a fav of mine.

Forgot to mention ‘Health is Wealth’ by the great Macka B. Another lyrically and musically brilliant set.

2017 has been a really good year for the full-length album. Here's my top 3...

Samory I - Black Gold

Kristine Alicia - Songs From Zion

Courtney John - Ecosystem

Interesting to note that the first two of those are both produced by Rory Gilligan. He has really perfected the modern roots sound by utilising some great musicians.

And here's 10 of my favourite singles from the last 12 months, starting off with a couple of veterans proving they've still got what it takes...

Ken Boothe - Let The Water Run Dry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj_kwmBpFaA

Cornel Campbell - My Roots Girl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivVPQJuSgfQ

Samory I - Rasta Nuh Gangsta https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtVu0gfP9tc

Protoje - Blood Money https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJtozpm7zwE

Fari Di Future & Autarchii - Shashamane Living https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb-2A3tB7LM

Monkey Marc ft. Sizzla, Capleton & Fanton Mojah - No Surrender https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bo7YLYXDN8

Shuga - Onward https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajgvDnAsTWY

Kabaka Pyramid - Can't Breathe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOx3nqWBe1c

Micah Shemaiah - In This Land https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5Ee1AicjaE

Randy Valentine - Vigilant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTs6hm3QqRc

And finally, I'll be playing most of these tunes and more in my end of year round-up on http://www.reggaeworldmusic.com/ later today from 8pm - 10pm UK time (along with a tribute to Michael Prophet)

Cheers,
Ian

Haven't checked all that many new releases on 12" or 7" this year but two true top albums have been released and they have already been mentioned... Samory I-Black Gold and Junior Natural-Militant. Those will last a long time after the ending of 2017...
I would also like to add Vivian Jones-Ethiopian King, the veteran seems to be revived again alongside Russ D as the producer.

It has been a while since we had a year this good for full length reggae releases. So good that I bought enough albums (physical copies that is) to make a reggae top 10 (new releases) for the year. Here we go:

1. Samory I – Black Gold
2. Damian Marley – Stony Hill
3. Courtney John – Ecosystem
4. Junior Natural feat. Sly & Robbie – Militant
5. Frightnrs – More To Say Versions
6. Jesse Royal – Lily of Da Valley
7. Chronixx – Chronology
8. Ghetto Priest – Every Man For Every Man
9. Spiritual – Awakening
10. Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry & Subatomic Sound System – Super Ape Returns to Conquer

Special mention for this digital only release: Randy Valentine – New Narrative. Love it.

Didn’t get that many singles this year, but do also want to make special mention of the return of Roots Tribe / Slimmah Sound to the recording scene with two wicked, brand new 45s by Mark Wonder and Danny Red. Here's hoping for more in 2018. :)

Don't sleep on Pura Vida and Bleue's Into The Blue! Tough to find in physical format but worth it.

...But the highlight of the year, for me, was Dub Judah's 10" It Could Be Nice b/w Smoke, Mirror & Credit Cards on the Name By Nature label.

"Call my navigator
Cause I want to go home
Show me the direction
and I will point it in stone"

Here is hoping Dub Judah has more for us in 2018!

I don't know if that count because it's not really a release of 2017, but my favourite LP this year is Mr Bossman - Wayne Smith. This album has been recorded between 1983 and 1986 but never released before. The tunes are very nice and the sound quality is top :D
