Chronixx - live

Postby BMC » Sat Apr 05, 2014 9:46 am

Went to see Chronixx live in Amsterdam the other day for the opening night of his current European tour with Kelissa and Dre Island and man, he sure lived up to my very high expectations. I highly rate the young man's music and approach to it and was very curious if he could impress as much on stage. And yes he can, tight band (Zinc Fence), excellent stage presence and wicked setlist. Had some trouble with his voice due to the flight, but it didn't bother me one bit. Dre Island has a very nice set too. Nice detail was that Chronixx and Dre Island were doing backing vocals for Kelissa and Chronixx and Kelissa for Dre Island: really a joined tour.

Anyway, if you rate Chronixx, go see him if you can, worth it! :D

He opened the set with the great Alpha & Omega; see it here:

Sounds good.
The only thing that will hold Chronix back is his songwriting, which at times is substandard.

Can someone recommend their favourite Chronixx tunes?

People seem to rate him but none of his tunes ever seem that special to me . . . .

For me, its here comes trouble and Odd Rass - i think there's another thread on that.

Nice one, BMC, would love to catch him live but unfortunately his European tour does not reach the UK. What a sad state of affairs. I don't think it s Visa issues because he is on the line-up for the Boomtown Festival and was in London last year for little -publicised (meaning I never heard about it until after it happened :D ) gig in Kings Cross.

Oh well, Alborosie's coming to Brixton on Thursday, looking forward to that one!

LB- I'd strongly recommend Alpha and Omega and world under siege, both available on 7". They are both over vintage rhythm 's , Al Cambell's jamming and Spear's swell headed.

Rico, no they sadly didn't have vinyl copies of Dread & Terrible yet. The guy of the merch told me they expected those in three weeks time (so about two weeks from now). Too bad, since I really hoped to grap a copy at the show.

Some of my favourite Chronixx tunes are:

Alpha & Omega
Here Comes Trouble
Start A Fyah
Rastaman Wheel Out
Smile Jamaica
Selassie Souljahz (ft. Sizzla, Protoje, Kabaka Pyramid)
World Under Seige
Top Rankin (ft. Jah Sun)
Odd Ras
Who Knows (ft. Protoje)
Plant It
I Love King Selassie (ft. Black Uhuru)
Capture Land
Eternal Fire
Iyah Walk
Life Over Death
Spirulina
Thanks And Praise
Beat & A Mic
Acces Granted
Aint No Giving In
Most I
They Don't Know

Quite amazing that he just released his first official EP (Dread & Terrible), but already has over 50 tunes out there that I'm aware of (of which about 12 on 45s). Obviously not all evenly good, but overall quality to me is pretty high.

Check out this latest video of his, nicely done:

Doing his country and it's music proud, this youth has one bright future ahead of him. Carrying the torch for the new generation, authentic music, evidently has a strong management team behind him. Looking forward to catching him live in Manchester at the end of next month. Thanks for the link BMC.

Young people going for him, my friend's daughter really likes Chronixx and she's 16! Not been blown away myself, but rate Capture Land and Selassie I Souljahz with Addis Pablo.
