hehe i am 38 and been into skating since i was 10, should be much better considering how long i been doing it but probably took about 5 - 10 years off over that time and getting back into it now but confidence is shook... got my ollies back and next step is flips!

look forward to checkign out that cardiel interview about reggae - never seen that before.. i might repost that on to a different skating forum (sidewalk) as i have a reggae thread in that..

whether you skate or not i would recommend checking out this series about him http://www.vice.com/en_uk/epicly-later- ... iel-1-of-4
its quite long but he is a pretty unique individual. one of the best skaters ever, had a really bad accident , doctors said he would never walk again but he was skating again pretty quickly.. a true case of mind over matter and power of positive attitude.

John Cardiel was mentioned. He was involved in the Vans/VP Records shoe. 120 pairs only. Can´t buy them unfortunately.

I slowed down with skating in my 30s when it started hurting more and did a lot more snowboarding but now I'm back on it again teaching my eldest daughter. 44 next week :D

Great thread!
Reggae and skating were a big part of my formative years, having got into both at pretty much the same time. For a long time I really wanted to be this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O718bjrZwA4

I was wondering what had happened to him and I found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TarmEN4XDY

Made me think that a part of me still wants to be him! :)

I haven't skated for quite a few years now, but it's still in the back of my mind whenever I see a nice, shiny curb or a marble bench. We didn't have too many of those in South Africa when I was growing up, but I live in the US now and it's just how I always imagined it would be from the videos. I'll be 40 soon (gulp!), but I'm still tempted to get a board again, even if it's just to cruise around on. That Johnny Clarke deck might just tip me over the edge!

At the risk of sending this too off-topic for the moderator, here's and interesting skating-related story from my home country:
