Warning: Hugh Mundell-Jah Fire LP reissue

Postby flashman » Sun Nov 10, 2013 6:24 am

Just got this reissue from VP Greensleeves. It has Side One pressed on both sides!
Another f#*% up from them. I'm getting super wary of their releases.
Anyone else got this yet? Same problem?
To be clear, it's the same music on both sides, not the same label, which of course wouldn't really bother me.

And now I realize my Onlyroots reissue Rockers 12" of Jacob Miller has the wrong tune listed on it. It's been a strange day for new vinyl

If anything, I'd say it's a f#*% up by the pressing plant

And look on the bright side - in a few years time it'll be a super-rarity and you'll be quids in!

Sorry - I should have prefaced my reply with "Warning - may contain attempted humour and/or world-weary cynicism"

It's remarkable that this sort of thing is still happening after all these years.
Someone had obviously smoked a large spliff that day!

If they'd pressed some herbs into the grooves and included some typo's on the label the experience would be complete

All in the name of authenticity you see!

OK, here's the thing with the Jacob Miller 12". First, I could be wrong and I respect the expertise of Onlyroots; great label. So I apologize in advance if I'm off base. It's a great release either way.

But: there is a tune Jacob Miller did for Pablo, which I've always seen labeled as "Who Say Jah No Dread". It's on the same rhythm as Hugh Mundell - Stop Them Jah. The main lyric of the tune is "too much commercialization of rastafari"

So, when I saw the Onlyroots 12" of "Too Much Commercialization of Rastafari", I assumed it was the same tune. I was expecting the Stop Them Jah rhythm. But it turns out, the tune is actually the one I'd previously known as False Rasta, which is on the 555 Dub Street rhythm, and has no lyrics about commercialization of rastafari.

So, did they mislabel it? Or is it a facsimile of the original release which had the wrong title? Or is that somehow an alternate title for False Rasta even though the commercialization lyrics aren't present?

Not sure. Bottom line: great 12" but it's confusing to me.

Wasn't there some problem with the Black Arrow reissue of Jah Fire from a few years ago as well? Tracks cut off or some such if memory serves.

Flashman, had exactly the same confusion when the Rockers repress came out, turns out the original 12" was titled this way, typical reggae mix up :

Anyway, thats what sound clips are for...

Ah, thanks. I did think that may have been the case. I didn't bother to check before buying because I knew there was no chance I wouldn't like it.

Mighty 12" in any case. Babylon doesn't stand a chance against this one really!
