haven't had a chance to listen to those youtube clips but if Promised Land hasn't been mentioned, it should be.

Yes Living Bate, I had "Things in Life" on my list as well.

JB, I agree that Promised Land is an all time classic. I remember when Love Fire by Aswad came out and people went crazy over it. It had almost a digital sound which we hadn't heard before. It shouldn't have been possible but Promised Land is even better!

There's an interview with Blacker Dread where he talks about Coxsone moving away from heavy roots towards artists like Dennis Brown. Tippa Irie also mentioned Dennis Brown as being his favourite artist. Dennis had a huge impact on other artists like George Nooks, Frankie Paul and Maxi Priest. Maxi tore the roof of a Saxon session in Luton back in the 80's with his version of "Your Love's Gotta Hold on Me", with "Jah Love's Gotta Hold on Me". As youngsters in the late 70's and 80's Dennis was much more current and relevant to us than Bob Marley (no disrespect intended). It's only in hindsight that I realise how great he was. A unique talent.

oh yeh....just noticed that...

I lose track of what I've clicked on if people don't post the name of the song they are linking....

as an aside I also think tunes like Promised Land, Revolution, Money In My Pocket etc, are just taken for granted these days......amazing songs that have just been rinsed out to the point its hard to appreciate them now....

To the Foundation, any version but the Joe Gibbs & Gussie cuts do the business for me in particular...

Also Hold On To What You Got on Taxi is a favourite...agreed many of the more well known tunes have gotten overfamiliarized & underappreciated...

Some great DB tunes mentioned here, but I've always been partial to 'In Their Own Way' (the first Gussie version)...
