Not the most recent buy but got it some time last month and have been enjoying it immensely since. I wonder why Keith Douglas never got more recognition. Both of his albums are brilliant going from sweetest of lovers rock to deepest of roots with a nice slab of rub-a-dub in the mix. Highlights on this set are »Frontline«, »Fit For the Fire« and the title track (even the lead electric guitar by Ciyo Brown is enjoyable and I'm usually allergic to that stuff).

His first album is even better.

$5 still shrink wrapped (and not even slightly shrink warped!). Possibly the best bargain I've found all year through and certainly amongst the greatest Canadian LPs out there.

On a non-reggae note:

On a whim I stepped into a neighborhood used book shop and found this very excellent book, which I've been searching for a few years, for $2. Why this classic has not been reprinted in English is beyond me: it's easily one of the greatest sci-fi novels written. Humanity has settled down to a state of reasonable calm and now sends missionaries of sorts to developing civilizations on other planets with the intention of protecting notable people from harm, and not really interfering otherwise (not too different from Star Trek's Prime Directive really). The book follows one missionary in a medieval civilization that is unexpectedly turning to a fascist state, who must reconcile his feelings of disgust with the essentially passive role he must maintain. The Strugatsky Brothers alternate writing chapters and their vision is so compact as to stay a seamless narrative throughout. I was very pleased to see Ted Sturgeon, perhaps my favorite author, praising the book on the back cover too.

Finally, many pounds of chanterelle mushrooms! This is an incredible year for mushrooming in the PNW. I laugh when I see stores around town hawking chanterelles for $10 a pound: take a step into the Olympic foothills and you will find more than you can carry back.

Hey minidub. You're right. Strange, since it displayed initially. It's Leroy Brown's Color Barrier LP on CMI (in case this image disappears too). Not a note of filler on the LP I've decided after listening to it three times in a row, haha.

yes, that is a truly great LP, and what an incredible score for $5.
have you heard the digi version of "color barrier"? not nearly as good as the original, but interesting for a listen; I passed up on the purchase.

I'm with you on the Color Barrier dijikal take. Ignoring comparison with the original, I don't think it stands too well on its own either. I have a hazy recollection of one digital track Leroy Brown did that was worth tracking down but there's a good chance I'm just remembering things incorrectly. On the subject of digital remakes, I can't think of any digital update that outdoes the original. There's probably a handful out there but generally I think digital remakes fall flat.

Nine out of ten times I prefer the original cut but there are some very nice redo's. Herbman Hustling is one. But that's not why I wanted to post. Congratulations on the set. I've got it myself and I really enjoy it. And for that price it was a real sweet treat!
