KENNETH Hoo Kim, one of four brothers associated with the Channel One studio, died on Thursday.

His younger brother Ernest, told the Jamaica Observer that he died at his home in Independence City in Portmore, St Catherine from lung cancer.

He was 66 years old.

Joseph and Paul were the other siblings who ran the Maxfield Avenue studio which opened in 1972.

Paul was murdered by gunmen in nearby Greenwich Farm in 1977.

The studio was the heartbeat of roots-reggae in Jamaica during the 1970s. Among the many hit songs recorded at Channel One were Delroy Wilson's It's a Shame, I Need a Roof by the Mighty Diamonds, Ballistic Affair by Leroy Smart and Woman is Like a Shadow by the Meditations.

Kenneth Hoo Kim was a mechanic by profession. He began producing songs at Channel One in the late 1980s, working with artistes such as singer Frankie Paul.

He is survived by widow Selma and five children.
