what would you suggest ?

Postby curryman » Sat Sep 21, 2013 11:42 pm

A friend of mine works in a record shop in the North of England.

He told me this story the other day -

"Today a bloke came up with a Revolutionaries CD and asked to listen to it. I stuck it on for him and a few minutes later he took the phones off and told me it was 'too reggaefied'. 'I like Scientist, King Tubby, that kind of thing' he said. So...I pulled out a Harry Mudie/Tubby CD and put that on for him. Same response".

If you were my friend what would you recommend at this point in proceedings ?

I have a hunch that later Channel One would also be too reggaefied.

I thought the guy would probably enjoy "Dreadlocks Holiday"

I'd ask him some more questions.

Or maybe suggest some more modern stuff - UK steppers dub or berlin dub techno. Or On-U Sound.

"Some people '' love Dub but can't stand Reggae''....." I remember a guy at art school like that. He loved the rhythms but found many of the lyrics banal and maybe just irrelevant - and let's face it, that is a fair criticism at times.
