Strange I could forget that one. First reggae album I ever bought and just good all the way through. Especially "We Need Love" gets me in a mellow mood every time.

as only Natti Mati has mentioned it and it deserves more hail ups, I'm saying I.V. Same Song for the power and dread it gave when I picked it up.

Obviously hard to pick a favourite but Heptones - On Top is pretty perfect - soul power and timeless riddims.

More recently, Damien Marley- Welcome to Jamrock and Sizzla- Black Woman and Child.

Still eleven of those I don't have, probably won't bother with most. Can't imagine buying a Rudy Mills LP.

We've done similar threads 4 or 5 times.

Apart from Marcia Griffiths and Steve Knight they are pretty much the same albums..
Most of my favourites have been mentioned. I'll add loads of 60s compilations (Ska and Rock Steady mostly), some Studio Ones :Carlton & The Shoes, Bob Andy, Heptones, Hugh Mundell (Africa 83 with dub), Pablo - Mittoo - Revolutionaries instrumentals ( I love instrumental Reggae ), Pablo Moses (Revolutionary Dream), Burning Spear, Aswad, and I'll stop here cause I think I'm probably repeating names......!

Is that the third time that has LP been mentioned in this thread? Never my favourite BMW, same with his last two. Don't think I've heard it for 20 years, maybe I'll give it another go this week.

I don't think Island Records would have been too happy with "Survival " I guess they would have preferred another "Exodus" or "Kaya" type of album where the singles could reach a bigger market & record labels in the past were suspicious of concept albums.

I imagine Bob & the Wailers must have been proud of 'Survival'
I think it's an amazing piece of work, it sounds so much unlike any other reggae recorded in JA or anywhere else for that matter.
Tuff Gong studio sounded incredible, the recorded instrumentation is pretty impressive, the synth sounds in particular are the best i have heard in reggae, Bob was at the top of his game & so was everyone involved in the album making.
A creative masterpiece , so for those interested when you get some free time, kick back relax , put some vinyl on the deck , wipe off that cd, find your mp3 player, chill & listen.

It does sound incredible, listening with headphones.
Whatever your listening pleasure, enjoy the experience.
