Lee Scratch Perry - New Album 2012

Postby rolling lion studio » Sat May 12, 2012 6:15 pm

Just a note for the Lee Perry Fans out there. Lee is releasing a new album this year ''Lee 'Scratch' Perry - Back on the Controls''
Lee has been in the Rolling Lion Studio in London over the last year, producing a new album in old school 'Black Ark' Style.
Using the same effects he had in the Black Ark, Lee is back at the controls, Hitting the buttons and twisting knobs on the desk and effects units.
The album is being produced by London based producer Dan Boyle, and Lee himself, in a true roots style.

As the Album is nearing completion, I thought it would be good to provide a few links on B+F to learn a bit more!

Here is a teaser of some of the riddims, also feat cuts by artists like Danny Red and Max Romeo.

great concept and like the sound yet I think it´s impossible to re-create the unique sound from back in the days.. I mean blowing ganja smoke in the recording equipment, using gardening tools for sound effects etc etc..

Keep up the nice work though!

thank you putting this on here- best reggae track ever, apart from most bob marley tracks

Completely agreed!
The original Black Ark sound can never be recreated! Its so unique!
But these sessions have been about creating an environment where Scratch can hit buttons and mash up effects to add his touch into the riddims. Its working well, and I the final mixes (not on the soundcloud link) are sounding pretty special!
The album with have 11 songs, a horns / flute cut for each riddim, and a Dub for each riddim - 30 tracks in total that has scratch helpig to direct and shapr the sound of the mixes, and him dubbing on the desk.

Hopefully he's mainly mixing and not singing.

Yeah, we will be doing cd and vinyl release. Then there is a project to do other black ark singers on the riddims for vinyl release, max Romeo, congos and others!

I agree with JB - get Scratch behind the mixing desk for another Max Romeo session or even an Omar Perry session! 8)

I've become convinced the best riddim Scratch ever laid down was "Patience" from side B of Super Ape. You didn't happen to revisit that one for the new set, did you?
