Vybz Kartell

Vybz Kartell, the greatest DJ 2 come out of JA/reggae world by a yorkshire country mile, with intelligence and depth.
Even before his present predicament.
Incarcerated,he still seems to be running the Jamaican music business with his Jailhouse/mobile phone releases. Am aware this might not gain much traction here but always interested in other peoples opinions.

Rather lost touch with Vybz Kartell's more recent ouput, but I certainly rate the following 45s by him:

"Weed Partner", M&M Top Secret
"Cut Yu Speed", Purple
"Money Over War", Purple
"Real Bad Man", Vendetta
(with Wayne Marshall) "Why Yu Doing It", Don Corleon

check out his newest one, "school" ...where he tells the youths to pull up their pants and not bleach their face: brilliant since the exam scores just came out and the kids are about to go back to school.

"Thank You Jah" is a classic:

or "Ghetto Life":

Hi Peter, good to hear other people checking all the roots of the tree.
Remember buying Michael Rose Upsetter "Observe Life" from you 25 odd years ago at your place.

The baddest tunes to come out of a DJ lately are those by Ninjaman, by a zillion miles, in my humble opinion

A bit self centered in the lyrics, but Ninja Mi Ninja blows everything else away.

Like Vybz, but auto tune needs to go away and never come back.
I'll put in a second vote for Ninjaman.

He tells the youths not to bleach after proudly selling them his "cake soap" ?

My favourite Kartel of 'recent' years in roots style is (by far):

Poor People Land: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk_jRntbXt4

And this is one of the dancehall 45s I have of his that I think is funny with Kartel showing his deejaying skills, love that tune (pretty good Elephant Man on that riddim too)!

Realest Thing (Stamma): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sySvBivPSbA
