Hit Run - a compilation????

Postby j j » Mon Jul 29, 2013 3:28 am

I believe Adrian Sherwood was behind this label which released a number of heavy 12" records back in the day. It seems only the Carol Kalphat 12" has ever been re-issued which has always struck me as odd considering Mr Sherwoods "Pressure Sounds" connection.
It would definitely make for an interesting compilation, don't you think????

along with vol 2, they collect up most if not all the hitrun 12"s. great stuff on there. was also a USA release of just one volume with some different tracks and different mixes too.

JB put your glasses on - did you not see the list of Hit Run 12"s in my initial post? Those two compilations only include about 4 of the Hit Run 12"s & from Tapir's site there's over 20!

jj they are all there you just have to look closely. to do that I need to remove my glasses.

or then I guess the answer would be no...no compilation.

ps: I would not be surprised to find I helped tapir annotate some of that list.

pss: now that I think of it there was a compilation on some dubious label, rhino uk maybe, that did pull together a lot of these same tracks. cant recall the title but I know it didn't allude to hitrun or anything it was pretty pirate like. some tracks I recall include those mike brooks cuts, some of the bim Sherman and some prince hammer too. in fact it may have been a compilation of tracks mike brooks had a hand in.

just pulling your leg there jj, you are correct they didn't include many of them on the reggae archive sets.

the cd I am thinking of would not contain 12" versions; more like the 7" version and I don't recall if any had the version side as well. there may have been some extended mixes on the cd though; just haven't checked it out in quite a while. as I recall it was titled something like "reggae hits from 78". will go look for it later and report back if I find it but its gotta be under some major piles of cds by now.

well I did find the cd I was thinking of but it wasn't quite as I recalled. Classics of 1975 Volume 1 (I don't think I ever saw a vol 2 but maybe?) on rhino (uk) records. of the list above it only contains down in jamdown by bim man and hunger and strife (aka anger and strife) by bobby melody. don't recall if either or both are long or short versions or what but I do recall this was a pretty solid collection of 13 tracks mostly if not all produced by mikey brooks according to the liner notes. but this was a pretty dubious label and much of what they claimed was not so so take all this with a grain of salt.

ernie b lists it but out of stock:

a little bit of topic

but i looking for info on an album i used to have a long time ago and lost which was a compilation
i think it was onu-sound

there are 2 prince far-I tracks on that with are just 2 (excellent) dubversions of carol karpat - african land

does anyone know what im talking about?

i believe the LP was only released as cd format... is that true?

most of those hitruns are great
i should have some doubles of those on 'baby mother' lable
