From what I've understood it was separated in vocal and rhythm in the two channels. Because I think I recall someone (RB?) mentioning that the rhythm track was identical to the Musical Dub Attack LP.

Just found out that a free program called Audacity will combine a split stereo/two track MP3 (thank you Jah Bill!) into one mono track. You have to do it one track at a time, but it's otherwise pretty quick.

"Musical Shark Attack" sounds so much better in mono! As does Freddie McKay's Studio One album "Picture on the Wall" which also suffered from the same two track problem.

No confusion here. I know what a mono record is and my copy is an original 1976 pressing, which was mono. The split channel version everyone is speaking of, turns out to be the 2001 reissues on cd and vinyl.

What a voice!

The stand out LP for me has always been 'African Herbsman' - an absolute killer. Relicks of Johnny Clarke in his 70's prime.

Must be some rare/overlooked 45's out there of his prolific work - any recommendations welcome :D

Bless up

I love the fact that there are so many different opinions on his best LP!

I Roy never sounds very convincing when he starts in on Rastafarian lyrics - he's much better on humorous/topical themes imo.

What do you guys think of the "Heart Of A Lion" album?

Is there a dub version of this LP?

I see The General/Spider Web album has been mentioned in the thread. Believe me or not but the only two things I remember about this album are that

1. it contains one of my favorite reggae riddims of all time (I am far from home so I can't give you the title right now - if I remember correctly it's the last track on the C-side - to my ears the instrumental sounds better than the vox mix)
2. I rather listen to the "Spider's Web" than to "The General" because I just love to hear these instrumentals without any vocals at all.

So called split channel mixes suсk indeed, espeecially on vinyl - Jah Bill has already explained why.

And also the Dread Baldhead album, alone because of War and Friction:
