some of his productions (african anthem, beyond ww III) are nice, but he was an absolutely untalented toaster no matter how good
the backing tracks were imho .....

Love this from Mikey Dread, Roots and Culture - one of the best I reckon - what a tune for a big system. Autobiography and barber saloon always bring a smile too. 'Untalented toaster' is a bit harsh, bit like Keith Hudson was an 'untalented' singer. Both were true originators. Always bugged me that Don Letts used Mikey's jingles throughout his compilation album for heavenly and never credited him.

he had a very uniue style, whereas many other sounded more or less the same, he developed a style for each song... true originator and ahead of his time!!

favorite tune: african map
new mix!!

As a producer, which in reggae means an organizer/driving force behind a particular sound, he is one of my very favourites, he knew how to get the very best and most fresh sounds out of the Radics and King Tubby's mixing desk. He was also someone with a tremendous sensibility for the possibilities of dub, the dubs and mixes on his label are really done with a lot of love.

As a toaster, imo more misses that hits, but then his hits are so good I wouldn't want to live without them.
