think it says a lot that the initial poster used the past tense for Sizzla tunes! But another 5

Qualities in life (Ghetto Youthology)
Bandulu (Black History)
What's happening (Crown HIM riddim)
Peace (Waterhouse Redemption)
Confuse city (Kalonji)
Throw out your life line...

[quote="StepDubStep"Great thread. Helps to look past his not so brilliant moments.[/quote]

Occasional moments of brilliance in the distant past but I struggle to see past his hypocritical peace talk while holding guns, the offensive homophobic nonsense, and of course his disgraceful appearance at Mugabi's birthday where he accepted a farm from the violent, oppressive dictator.

I think he's still got it - 3 of his last 4 albums have been very high quality - The Scriptures, The Chant, and now, The Messiah. For the real top a top, I agree you have to go back to those extraordinary early years but I am really enjoying What A Joy - a relick of a classic Heptones riddim I can't quite place- from the Messiah.

Another 5

Mash dem down (da real thing)
Good Ways (Good Ways)
No other like Jah (Praise ye Jah)
Bless the Youth
No white God

A (flawed) genius no doubt. Just wish he'd come back and play in London. Its been a while.

Dem Try A Ting (Stealing Stealing)

Trod Mount Zion (Fade Away)

Kings of the Earth

Give Her The Loving

Rastafari Teach I Everything

True God (One Drop)

Some great remixes on Sick Riddim, Duck Dance riddim, Sleng Teng,

some horrible homophobic lyrics amongst some of them, but the mad energy of those tunes is irresistable

Rise to the occasion for Don Corleon is pretty good not sure if it stands alongside his classics though.

Good choice Dubba, I think it probably is up there. Also it doesn't sound like anything else. I remember Ricky Trooper playing that in one of the UK Cup sound clashes. It got a massive reaction and Trooper out of a corner and it wasn't even a special. Inspired selecting.
There's some quirky tunes on those two albums Sizzla did with Coleone, will have to dig them out again.

Reggie- UK Cup clash, managed to reach a couple of those at Ocean a few years ago, always full of vibes. I always liked matterhorns sizzla dubs, can recall them getting some big forwards, he always knew how to drop them and his choice of riddims was impeccable. I remember the clash when sami-t from mighty crown murdered him in the 45 round with the tony-ann speech! Memories!!!!

Interesting thread and great timing, I just finished the rough versions of two mixes focussing on just this: early Sizzla in roots (1995 - 2002). :D

Tunes combined with next cuts by a whole heap of other artists and some versions. Wicked music. Soon come.

Two of my favourite early Sizzla's not yet mentioned:

Half Has Never Been Told
Did You Ever?

Yes, the cup clashes also used to go off at the Stratford Rex, where a lot of reggae gigs also used to happen. Both venues are now both sadly closed. Ocean is now a cinema.
