To Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood? I've just recently gotten into Keith's stuff and would like some recommendations on where to go next....

I don't compare, it's artist evolution really. Personally I prefer the songs on Flesh of My Flesh, but prefer the sound/production on Rasta Communication. Once you get into Keith Hudson's music, it's all about the songs really. Check out the double CD The Hudson Affair, loads of versions there, wicked selection of music.

For Keith Hudson dubwise stuff there are two albums definately worth checking out . The first is Pick a Dub which was reissued on B&F and the second is called Brand which was reissued on Pressure Sounds . Both of these amongst my favourite 70's dub albums , crucial :!:

How would you compare Rasta Communication to Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood?

Very different albums. Flesh was a concept album and really unlike any other album in reggae; if you've heard it, you will know what I mean. Rasta Communication is a pretty normal reggae album. As Dan I mentioned, the best collection to get is Trojan's Hudson Affair, a great compilation of Hudson's productions and solo tracks.

The Hudson Affair is about £106 on Amazon, last time i looked - i missed the boat on that one, and would dearly love a copy.
The excellent Trojan compilation Studio Kinda Cloudy, a single disc predecessor to the double Hudson Affair, is £44 new and £20 used. The latter compiled by Steve Barrow I believe, and a damn fine job too.

Not sure if Keith Hudson ever produced a 'normal' reggae album ;)

Also worth checking if you like Rasta Communication is the 12" on Joint International a couple of years ago featuring Felt The Strain and two massive dubs.

The Hudson Affair kind of expands on the setlist from Studio Kinda Cloudy, which was a very impressive set - personal faves include Old fashion Way/Dynamic Fashion Way and Riot. Shocked at those prices tho.

The first time I listened to "Flesh of my Flesh, Blood of my Blood", it sounded rare to me...As you listen it again & again, it gets bettter & better!! I like it because its such a different reggae album from the normal standards...Its excellent & fresh.
"Rasta Communication", as Micks says, is more a pretty conventional reggae album (keeping in mind that its a KHs work)
"Pick a Dub" is one of the best dub albums I know.

I'm biased, but I would say check out Keith's "Torch Of Freedom" :-)

The chancers listing stuff on Amazon are a joke.

Pacience is all that is required to get decent CDs at the right price.

Picked up flesh of.. For £3.99 and the Hudson affair for £8.99 both in the last 12 months.

The Hudson Affair is an amazing compilation - actually the only release on CD format i bought during the last 10 years or so...well worth searching for (theres a copy right now on Discogs). Theres a vinyl release as well but i think it's only about half the music on the CDs.

From the Keith Hudson albums i'm familiar with, 'Playing It Cool & Playing It Right' is the closest to 'Flesh Of My Skin' - similar dark & psychedelic production. Never rated 'Pick A Dub' but maybe i should try & have a listen again...

Yes the vinyl set (was it on Earmark?) is missing loads of the tracks found on the cd

I bought my copy of "The Hudson Affair " CD like 8 years ago and yes, it's a wicked compilation.

The Earmark 2LP release only contains tracks from CD1.

The 2LP set (27 tracks in total):

Here I was feeling slightly smug that I got The Hudson Affair on vinyl when it came out, only to now discover that I'm missing half of it! :?
