Bass : How Low Can You Go ?

Postby underated » Sun May 19, 2013 7:52 pm

One of the great things about reggae is the hypnotic deep bass lines that are ideally played over a powerful system.
What reggae / dub recordings are extra heavy in the low end, yeah more than usual ,way more than usual ?
Something that's outrageously loud without even messing with the equalizer settings.
Something that shakes your walls being played on a home setup.

I remember a while back a lot of beat makers used to tune kicks really low & loud in the mix, more traditional bass grooves are heard now.
This track from a few years ago still sounds good, it used to shake windows.
There was a time I thought reggae had more bottom end than hip hop,
Not so sure about that now.

I was not expecting that after hearing the guitar chops, yeah quite loud & low for a vocal track.

Yeah i imagine that would sound good on a system, the label looks like it says 1980 ?
That track sounds pretty up to date.

That track has a superb bass line.
The second part seems to go out of key, it might be the pressing, could be my ears though.
I've rewound it a few times......rewinding youtube videos , i do like this jam.

GMIN //////// CMIN // DMIN// GMIN////
A popular turnaround, will check it out again tomorrow cause those notes bug me :)

Nice,

I think the sound is okay, it gives an idea of the bass.
okay some converters are better than others & sometimes up loaders change eq settings, more or less the feel is still there.

Yeah that Barry Brown 'UNITY' is quite loud for a vocal track, good one.

I'm referring to the echobombing/berserk dub 7" and some of the other tunes released from Jahtari. The artist Disrupt. A lot of it may be illusive lows due to fx. Maybe not actual 30hz bizness but serious rumble.

Fire Facts or King General-Earth in Turmoil (that last note in the b-line)
Fabian-Prophecy (maybe just the weight and not frequency?)
Sandeeno-Put Down the Guns (Romans relick, hits that extra low note every few measures)

Sandeeno - Dust another Sound, on Sip-a-Cup has one of the lowest, heaviest basslines I'm aware of. Also the Bug's colab with Space Ape - '****' has extreme low end rumble...
