Are these Phyllis Dillon tunes original or covers??

Postby loyaljester » Wed May 01, 2013 3:30 am

Probably an easy one for the skinhead reggae/mod soul possie:
Is Phyills Dillon & Hopeton Lewis-Get On The Right Track a Jamaican original or a cover of some soul song? The Treasure Isle 7" says "copyright control" under the title which usually indicates it's a cover of something but I haven't been able to ID of what... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF8v1ks-mj8

Same question for and perhaps a more difficult one regarding We Belong Together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_IrXxQe5Fg. Found this 1971 soul song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYreS3hStNo with the exact same lyrics and somewhat similar chords so who covered who? Or are both Phyllis' and Honey Cone's versions covers of something older?
