I really liked a lot of what I heard on the set. It could probably be a really great modern crossover reggae set if someone else than Snoop was trying to handle the vocals. :D

i'm not a fan.....it just comes off too gimicky for me....like a fad that he'll move on from after an album or two.......

I was reading the other day that him and Bunny Wailer have fallen out....

Reading that interview, I am reminded of the wise old proverb: You can't polish a turd.
Without music, life is an error. (Nietzsche)

Was intending to buy the album until I saw there is very little input from JA artists (just one combination in the end). I think that undermines the credibility of the project really, especially after his trip out there. The track with Bunny Wailer sounded pretty good but was not included after Bunny laid into him.
I quite enjoyed much of the film though, some good footage from JA, particularly at the Alpha Boys school and in Tivoli Gardens. Also some unintended humour from the sub Cheech and Chongery of the kids in a candy shop. A funny moment when Snoop's cousin nearly passes out.

I was kinda looking forward to this album as the first couple of tracks i heard a while back sounded promising,
[ here comes the king & la la la ] catchy sounding tracks that i listened to a couple of times.

The key words for me are reggae mixed with hip hop = hypnotic beats & riddims.
In that aspect the album is a bit of a let down, it does not gel together as an album should, too many tracks & ordinary tracks at that.

Still for Snoop Lion his brand rolls along as he can tour with this product & fans won't ask for his old material .
That's a clever move so he can later tour as rap artist as well.

If he makes another reggae album it would be nice if he worked with producers like 'DUBMATIX' or even the many great Dub producers out of the UK, now that would be really interesting & would make for a really deep sounding authentic lively sound, nothing boring or watered down , just good catchy dubby reggae tracks :)

maybe its not for me to pass judgement, but i think if Snoop really had been that affected by the visit to Jamaica / conversion to Rasta etc.....then you would think he would move away from the spotlight for a bit......do a bit of real soul searching.....

instead he's just quickly put an album together and claiming rasta, whilst calling women bitches still and dropping N bombs left right and centre away from the music....

its a contradiction and for me I think Bunny has a point......its a fad, and he'll drop it once he's bored of it...

Good point LB,

If an artist is on some sort of spiritual quest, usually their newly found wisdom finds it's way into their music & interviews.
Snoop does not seem to show any of that knowledge, if anything he perhaps thinks similar to many folks perception of rastafari.

Peace love & getting high is the often the wrong interpretation of the rastaman.
The elders in JA were perhaps looking at this guy as a potential spokesperson ?
I don't think that was ever going to happen.

Rastaman is a humble man,
& yes it's not for us to pass judgement on anyone, as reggae fans we simply give our opinions & that's what we all do here :)
