Bass Culture CDs?

Postby Mick Sleeper » Sun Apr 28, 2013 8:07 pm

What happened to the 4 volume set of Bass Culture CDs that were a companion to Lloyd Bradley's book? The track listings looked excellent, but the series has disappeared before I had a chance to pick any up. (I remember this being discussed on the board, but can't find the thread.)

I see what you mean Mick, no sign of them on amazon. I assume the labels gone bust or there might be some licensing issues that have surfaced since release???

It seems that the series has been cancelled, at least I just saw this on Amazon:

The 2012 "Bass Culture" reggae series, released on the Nascente label to co-incide with 50 years of Jamaican independence, promised to be an excellent product. Unfortunately, however, the series appears to have been cancelled.

I've contacted the Demon Music Group & they confirm that the series will no longer be released due to issues with licensing the content.

The series encompassed four double CDs:

Volume 1 - Bass Culture: This Town Is Too Hot (Ska & Rocksteady)
Volume 2 - Bass Culture: Boss Sounds (Early Reggae 1968-1972)
Volume 3 - Bass Culture: When Reggae Was King (Roots, Rockers, DJs & Dub 1970-1980)
Volume 4 - Bass Culture: Mash You Down (The Birth of Dancehall 1978-1985)

Unfortunately I never got around to picking them up either...

Too bad they just vanished - you can't find them anywhere.

It was strange...they were in second hand stores but delayed on Amazon and now gone. Looks like promo copies went out at least.

They are terrific comps...in a a ridiculously over-comped market.
