Yes, a great morning with the Ital Dokta.
I picked up Black Uhuru Showcase on Black Rose and Anthem with the more tasteful cover - $20 for the pair
A nice copy of Rock 'n' Groove on Solomonic Ja for $15 and ten the dealer gave me Culture's Cumbolo on Joe Gibb's for free!

Met an interesting couple who emigrated to Vancouver from Sweden in 1983 - they were both done out in really authentic skinhead gear and we got talking because all three of us were wearing Ox blood, 1460 Dr Martens. I don't think they were finding much in the way of early reggae but they seemed to be having a good time.

As a bonus I got home and there was a pm from jps putting me on to a very reasonably priced copy of Barry Brown's What You Don't Know (which I had mentioned earlier in this thread). Cheers jps.

So now I've spent money which I probably shouldn't have given my current personal economic situation - but I'm enjoying some great music!! :D

kalcidis wrote:Nice haul BMC. I'm a bit curious about that Bunny Lie Lie LP. From what I recall it's the same as his Bunny Lie Lie in Africa -- Give Me Love (SW&K LP). But the track listing might differ a little. If that's the case I'm curious if this LP also has the same volume problems. I think it's on the song »Come On Youthman« that this is noticeable. A great album!

Checked the album in more detail this weekend and there's volume problems audible in the track Give Me Love. Somewhere in the second half of the track the volume drops, to come back in louder a little later in the track. Is that what you were referring to, too?

Tracklist of this version is:

A1 Moses Moses
A2 My Brethren
A3 Coming & Coming
A4 Give Me Love
A5 Jah Jah Help Me
B1 Sympathy
B2 Natty Youth Man
B3 Come Along Youth Man
B4 Giving Something To Somebody

Roots Archives lists this for Give Me Love (In Africa):
Give Me Love
Jah Jah Help Me
Coming And Coming
Moses Moses
Come My Brethren
Sympathy (Extended)
Natty Youth Man (Extended)
Come Along Youth Man

So >B4 Giving Something To Somebody< seems to be an extra track on the Musical Pressure release. Lovely album!

Thanks for the info, BMC. I can't recall that last song on my version of the set so you're probably right. Is it a good song? I always thought there was place for a song more on the B-side as only two cuts are extended.

Yeah. That's the sound issue I was referring to. I think I have that same volume problem on a 12" with him on Thompson & Koos (can't remember the title right now).

Yeah, Giving Something To Somebody is a tuff track, one of the better tracks of the album I'd say.

Nice (and annoying since I have to find this issue too for a reasonable penny)! Could you do a rip of the song possibly? Very curious.

the best thing about them all is that they are all just in fantastic condition, all of them. the african museum piece I was worried about, as some of my a stuff on that label is a bit sketch on sound quality, but that 12" is minty mint, really not a pop or click through the entire piece! i've been waiting for a really clean copy of that joseph cotton for years--well, clean AND affordable! i've come across it a few times, but for $30+ dollars, i'd want very excellent condition, but they are always vg to vg-, at best. this single is so clean it's amazing. a few pieces were still in the shrink wrap unopened.

I love digging through crates for vinyl.

going places is a beauty! is there a dub anywhere? (or is it the 'no version curse' of all tracks called 'going places')

It flows into a dub version actually, albeit of a less heavy kind than the dub to that other S&G 12" of his (False Rasta), more like an instrumental with some tasty horns!
