I use a BOSS DE-200. It sounds wicked. But it's a vintage unit and probably a bit expensive these days.

Sounds great

Agreed, sounds nice and very robust so don't mind taking it to play out. It doesn't sound as good as my original Space Echo, but I wouldn't let that out of the house! :)

I've got two DE-200s and they're excellent - plenty sounds use these for this reason

Fairly rare though and the price varies - I paid £70 for one and £170 for the other

If you have deep pockets the HH Tape echo with slider is what you want, but you're looking at £500+ IF you can find one

A more sensible option is a Boss RDD-20, again I have one of these, I paid about £60 iirc - but 2nd hand again

I managed to pick both of mine up within hours of each other on ebay

I think they're fairly common in japan - well that's what I was told :)

Can anyone tell me what ya need to link up a Roland RE-20 to ya decks & mixer? I'm guessing a separate pre-amp? I had one on order but it never came, so still unsure.

To do it 'properly':

You need a mixer with auxiliary (aux) send & return which preamps also should have..

connect the 'Aux Out' / 'Send' to the input of your delay unit.
connect the output of your delay unit to the 'Return' or into the line in of a different channel..

hopefully that makes sense.. what mixer do you have?

Thanx Ephteeay.

Appreciate that. Kinda thought that would be the case. I have a Numark X9 > http://www.numark.com/product/x9

It has a third channel but no send/recieve (i think)

Maybe (?) you can use the 'Booth' (if not using) as the 'aux send' to your echo (connect to input).. then connect the output of your echo to the line in of the 3rd channel... Twisting the booth knob sends the mix to the echo - you would need to take care with that so you dont clip the signal going to the echo... (Kill/Lower the bass perhaps on the 3rd channel) You can also connect your siren directly to the RE-20 if you dont use both the inputs for the booth.. hopefully you don't blow up your house!

Think the Booth output pass out the same signal as the master output - in this case you'll have the echoed output fed back into the echo unit creating a feedback loop King Tubby style - house WILL blow !

Only way i can see using a send/return setting with this mixer is using the headphones output as aux send fed back into the 3rd channel, just be careful not to enable headphone monitoring for the return channel & create a feedback loop - your house *might* be safe this way. You wouldn't be able to use the headphones out this way though...

(I was thinking if you send only a chop / note / snare to the send.. ) a brief twist :D

Thanx again, yeah the 'booth' isn't in use the way I have it set up, so that maybe an option as you say. I'll try give it go, maybe borrow a friends first before investing. Thanx for the advice. I'll try not to blow the house down...

Bless.

I bought an RDD-10 the other day, sounding alright but only running my siren through it, can't seem to get it to work with the send and return on my mixer.

Can anyone say what the differences are with the Boss delays?
