Orthodox dub LP

Postby edgar » Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:09 pm

First copy I have ever seen which has a (though basic)sleeve, track-list and label.

Always thought this was made as a side-project by Clive Hunt at the five arts studio or at white plains road in New York. but apparently it was recorded in Jamaica at the Treasure Isle studio
thank you putting this on here- best reggae track ever, apart from most bob marley tracks

or at least mixed there.
It does indeed sound like Errol Brown mixing, now that I know it's him.

Listening to this LP again, it sounds to me like it's a mixture of tracks from different origins.
Most tracks sound quite "revolutionaries" to me, while a few sound more "NY", e.g. track 5 side 1 and track 5 side 2.

Personally I wouldn't be sure that's an official sleeve. It could very well be a home made screen print. Seen such for several albums that came without proper sleeves. Also if you check on the label you can see that it's a sticker put over the original (blank?) label.

What's interesting though is where the titles in track listing comes from and also if it really is released on Magic Fire Records. I've only seen one Magic Fire 12" in my life and they didn't have similar logos but then again the matrix would suggest so.

Magic Fire was a short-lived Bronx label from the Wackie's axis of folks, they had many short lived labels controlled by various folks at various times. it's also not uncommon for New York reggae labels in that era to have gotten a larger amount of test pressings than normal, and treated them like "pre-release" as they did in Jamaica, but also hand making/screenings sleeves for a small batch that would be offered in their main retail outlet. seems like a safe bet that's what happened here.
