lyrics here : http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/godeh/r4gungowalk.htm

I believe it originates from a line in a traditional Jamaican (Mento?) song which goes "Matty run a mile and a half inna Gungo Walk". There's an Eastwood & Saint version of the song, but I don't know the original. Something to do with gungo peas (which are like the more common black eye beans/peas without an eye). I guess you can farm them, so if you run through a farmer's crop...you might run a mile and a half.

Max Romeo's Wine her Goosie is the earliest example I know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGuzhHuEURU

It's the gungo walk, where they grow gungo peas in Jamaica used in peas soup, rice & peas, etc. Thick vegetation which became a euphemism for a "lady's garden".

There was an Errol Scorcher tune too: "The Man them walk a mile and a half inna Sharon gungo walk". Can't remember the title though.

Can't view the image but think dirty and use your imagination!

Btw, the Errol Scorcher tune was called "Under Me". What else? :)

Yellowman - Want Mi Virgin on Black Scorpio is another version http://www.deadlydragonsound.com/newaudio/10980.mp3

I believe the "original" such as it is with folk music is Matty Walla-Lef https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVnl7sHJa48
