Didn't buy much new stuff in 2004, but albums I still enjoy are the Nouvelle Vague cover versions & Brian Wilson's "Smile".

not strictly the correct place to post this but jazzman records have just put out "Black Land of the Nile" by Black Fairy. A reissue, but the original Taifa LP was just impossible to find! wicked, uplifting conscious soul!

Lambchop double LP from earlier this year
Beta Band - Heroes to Zeroes

Best reissue by a long shot is the Milton Nascimento double Maria Maria and Ultimo Trem....quite breathtaking!

Haven't bought much new music this year, been mostly retro purchases but my favourite new lp that I've bought has got to be Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose. If you like old timey country music with great vocals singing honest and personal lyrics with a touch of rock guitar here and there, then this is the lp to buy!!

Coming a close second has got to be Tinariwen - Amassakoul

Bedward - I've not heard of the one you list. Who and what is it?

Cheers
Ian

Thought Morrissey's You are the quarry was great. The world is full of crashing bores? America is not the world? This is all sound advice.

Festival in the Desert (World Village)

Live recording of the festival in Mali, features Ali Farka Toure, Oumou Sangara, Lo’Jo, Tinariwen. Even the Robert Plant track sounds good! only problem, WOMAD now seems pretty tame in comparison!

I can't decide between:

:) Zero 7 - When It Falls and...

:) Fragile State - Voices From The Dust Bowl

...as my favourite non-Reggae, non-reissue purchase of the year.

...but I don't think I could decide on my favourite Reggae album either - issue or re-issue :? :( :)
If it don't turn you on, you oughtta leave it alone!!

I didn't buy any non-reggae stuff this year that wasn't a re-issue. :o
