do you have the original 12" or just a track on cd called 12"-mix ?
then you can't be sure that it wasn't assembled from 7" a and b sides
and sound different to antother copy which maybe the original 12" mix.

Dudley would have the vinyl by the way..!

but yes.. there are many people who rely on mp3 labelling for information..

They'll tell you 'yeah it was released on 12" when they only have 2 sides of the 7" in one mp3 (with a 4 second gap in between the vocal & dub in most cases)

oops..just wondering... are you talking about different mixes of the same format? i.e. different 7"s with different mixes?

In the latter 1970's I regularly used to buy the latest JA sevens then the UK twelve when it came out a few months later. Loads of them were different mixes, beyond, of course, the dub or Dj tacked on the end.

yah congo / conqueror 12" is the same.. dub comes in about 3 minutes into the track.. and lasts about 4 minutes

i also have a 'forward records' 7" which has a different dub (plus the vocal is about 40 seconds(?) longer than the vocal on 12")

and i've been told of a copy on wambesi which has a different dub to both!

Then there's another press on a label called something like Discobahn (?) which ive seen on ebay...but i never heard that one.. probably has the same dub as one of the other presses..?

titles & credits are slightly different on 12" & 7" something like:

yah congo: nogga morris & the heptones - you want to get i out
forward: heptone - you cant get i out

i'm at work now so will check the details later on today!

edit: you can check the label of 'you want to get i out' / yah congo here:

I can think of several 7" I have that were remixed but that is usually the JA to UK 45s from the early 70s.

The only one 7" to 12" remix I own that was remixed is Tenor Saw's "No Work On Sunday". The 7" was recorded with studio musicians. The 12 was done mostly electronic.

i am unsure what the question is but if it is do you have 7"s with different mixes than the 12"s of the same song in the same collection then yes, plenty of them.

>They'll tell you 'yeah it was released on 12" when they only have 2
>sides of the 7" in one mp3 (with a 4 second gap in between the vocal &
>dub in most cases)

many 12s came out just like this: vocal, gap, version, or with just 7" length cuts on both sides. kinda unscrupulous if you ask me.

Dudley,

2 Johnny Clarke tunes come to mind:

Age is Growing on Gumari and 3rd World
Peace and Love in the Ghetto on Weedbeat and 3rd World

I believe different mixes on each of the two 7s

true!!... but most didn't ! - there are dozens of very obvious 7" which never came on 12" labelled as 12" .. anyway... not very important..

A close friend swore to me he found the Sylford Walker-"Burn Bablyon" 12" on mp3 from some bloodsucker site a while back. I heard it, and I heard the short gap. Maybe I missed something, but don't think it exists. Only pon Locks 7" (and maybe Joe Gibbs 7" from old too?). Correct me if I'm wrong. There's one example. Risky trusting internet badman.
