Tappa or Tapper or Topper?

Postby mike turner » Fri Jan 21, 2005 7:21 am

In my collection I have credits to:

Tappa Zukie - 9 singles - all JA issue -including 6 on his own labels

3 lps - all JA issue

Tapper Zukie -5 singles - 3 on UK labels, 2 on his own JA labels

3 lps - 2 of which were UK issue

Topper Zukie - 2 JA issued singles

--------------------------

It would seem that Tappa is a clear winner, especially if you discount the UK releases, then the ratio is 3:1 Tappa on JA released singles & lps.

Tapper is only the proper form, aka Tapper Zukie, the guy that tapped the keg.

Tappa the JA form.

Topper is just a label misprint.

I have a Zukie track somewhere on a Jamaican LP (forget which one) where he asks "What's My Name???" and the backing vocalists respond "Tapper Zukie!!!" and then proceed to spell it out one letter at a time as - T..A..P..P..E..R

I'm not saying that's the only legit spelling, of course - just that he wouldn't have done it if he objected to the 'Tapper' variant that is often used outside of JA.

...and whilst we're on the subject:

'Yabby U' or 'Yabby You' ? Even the B&F CD releases can't seem to agree on that one!
