SKYLARKIN' this Sat @ The Marie Lloyd Bar - Hackney E8

SKYLARKIN'
Saturday 22nd Jan 05
@ The Marie Lloyd
(Next to the Hackney Empire)
289 Mare St
Hackney E8
9pm til 1am
FREE-NESS!!!

This Saturday I'm down my local boozer playing corkin' choons to assorted east-end theatre going types and anyone else who happens to stumble through the door. It won't be a pure Reggae ting by any means but there'll be plenty of Jamdown sounds alongside some blistering Funk, Soul, Afro-beat, Jazz, Rap and pretty much whatever else accidentally ends up in my record box. The venue doesn't usually pull a big weekend crowd by any means (mainly cos no-one can tell the bleedin' place is open!!!) so it'd be good to see ya down there if you can make it.
Cheers,
Mistah Brown (the Tighten Up Crew)[/i]

More music hall than dancehall eh Steve....
You should really dig out some Marie Lloyd for the event!
We'll certainly pop down the road for a jar or two
Be good to see you,

Nice one Pilot. Spent far too much money @ that Vinyl Vault the other day so i'll be rinsing my new choons just to get my money's worth!

I've wandered round the Empire a few times looking for the Marie Lloyd with no success... is it on Mare Street? Because if I can find it I might well come down, i have a feeling might be a bit sorrowful on that night so music would be good.

edited as I read the address clearly printed in first post, duh...

It's where the Samuel Pepys used to be.

Right on the corner of the theatre, closest one to the Town Hall. It's under a brick monstrosity that says 'Hackney Empire' or somesuch.

I think it's hard to spot cos there's not a big sign saying "MARIE LOYD BAR - WE ARE OPEN!!!" Annoyingly they tend to keep the curtains drawn to keep in the warmth, with the result that it always looks closed. I'll wear something eye-catching and stand in the front window waving!!!
