New UK Roots 7s

Postby yao chris » Mon Nov 29, 2004 8:17 pm

I was wondering if someone could recommend me some new modern UK roots 7"s. My no means do I mean to exclude all the great tunes coming out of other spots in Europe so please include any of those as well.
While I am able to get the 10"s and 12"s from Ernie B the 7"s don't seem to make it over to him and I'm hesitant to do mail order import because it gets real expensive at $7 or $8 a 7". I have some of the Mellow Vibes Label tunes - Tenna Star, Murry Man, Etc., I get a lot of the Unity Sounds, & Jah Warrior labels - Any other modern roots recommendations on 7" from the last couple years??

thanks for the reply - you jogged my memory and I have bought all the fleximix & deep roots 7s which I think are top quality - I love the Michael Rose Days of History tune - very dark sound on that one. With the Zion Gate 12s I rate those highly and play them out every week with good crowd response. I always buy the majority of Disciples, Conscious Sounds, Jonah Dan, Jah Warrior, ETc Etc Productions but rarely find the 7s. I have not bought much on the Uprise or Addis labels as I don't think Ernie ever gets it - Does any one know of any other good distributors in the US?

I've got loads of great modern UK roots 7"s on the 'Reggae On Top' label - Barry Isaccs & friends.

These will be future classics.

Please check out the website -

I wasn't sure if you only wanted UK artists on UK labels, so sorry if these are no good. But here are the European releases in my own current Box of Treasured Gems. (I know some have been mentioned already, but if I keep checking back I'll never get this post done.)

Al Campbell/Basque Dub Foundation - The Power
Anthony B/Luciano - Good & Bad
Anthony Johnson - Gunshot Rock
Butch Cassidy Sound System - Burning Sun
Joseph Cotton - Pull Dem Down
Luciano - World Leaders
Michael Rose - Days Of History
Ranking Joe - World In Trouble
Roots HiTek - Umoja Dubwise
Sinner - African Simba
Sis Sanae - Free Jah Children
Strategy - Going Street Dub
Sugar Minott/Original Uman - Prophecy
Vibronics - Red, Gold & Green

Released in the last 7 days:

New Vibronics 7" on Lush label called "Dub Fire"
Killer new steppers 7" "Shockers Skank" by Fu Manchu Allstars on Riverbank label.
Re-press of "Jah Children" by Vincent Taylor on Fu Manchu 7", originally released late 1980's but a tough UK tune still.
