Thank you!

"Gallas Trap" was something of a holy grail for me, a seriously haunting tune! IMO one of the best and most unexpected DKR releases so far.

I am assuming none of the music from the original 12" has been cut off to fit a 7" release? Would have preferred a 12" but am very grateful for this still. Anyone feeling like getting the original can get it for a mere £300 from a certain UK site.

I hadn't heard this tune before, but I am in full agreement. "Gallas Trap" is just incredible. The best of this lot for sure.

absolutely not. we would not truncate a release to fit it on a different format.

hard to please everyone, when you put something from a 12" on a 7", some people will always want the original format (this is what i personally generally prefer in most circumstances as well).

but then when you put something out on a 12" that could fit on a 7" (like we did with Dave Robinson - Got To Go Thru, keeping the original format), some people bawl that it should have been on the other (cheaper) format.

in the case of this tune, the Uplifters tune was just one side of the original 12" release, and the vocal and dub easily fit on a 7". there is two pressings of the original, one w/ Enforcer - Bad Boy on the other side (also reissued this month!) and one w/ a boring (IMO) Blue Bells tune on the other side. i had no interest in re-releasing the Blue Bells so the natural choice was to just put it on a 7".

Can someone tell me about the meaning of "Gallas Trap"? What is he singing about?

The word 'gallas' is a phonetic spelling of the way the word 'gallows' is sung.
A 'gallows trap' is a trapdoor that opens when a person is hanged from a height, so that the victims drop down and die quickly from a broken neck rather than through strangulation.

The lyrics of the chorus are:

"Blindfolded, leading out to the gallows trap,
never know the minute nor the hour the last drip of blood will drop.
Blindfolded, leading out to the gallows trap,
never know when brutality will ever stop."

haunting stuff, it reminds me of Cornell Campbell's 'Bandulu' lyric:

"This time tomorrow, you'll be in a different world
hanging from the Spanishtown gallows,
behind those cold prison walls"

Was the hornsless mix of Bad Boy also released on Narrows or only on Regal?

the no horns mix (harder imo) is from the Regal 12". the Narrows 12" had a vocal mix with horns that goes into a deejay part by Jah Wayne, then a full horns dub on the b-side.

our 10" has -
A-side : enforcer - bad boy (vocal & dub from regal 12")
B-side: little roy - leaving rome (prev. unrel vocal on same riddim) / horns dub (from b-side of Narrows 'bad boy' 12")

bad boy on narrows 12" has two pressings - one has the uplifters 'gallas trap' on the b-side, one has the full horns dub on b-side.

likewise, uplifters comes as above, but then also w/ the blue bells tune on the other side.

all came out at basically the same time, just pressing plant error mixing up the stampers.

I just want to say thanks to RB for these releases. So many digikiller releases have really connected with me, there is always ....at the very least... one tune that will hit the spot for me.
'Jah Jah send the Parson' and
'Gallas Trap'
are companion pieces, haunting deep roots vibes.
hats off, hats off
one of the best digikiller releases for sure, possibly my favourite. i think id prefer it on 12" so i could just let the riddim flow; without having to change the sides; its too deep!!! but i guess that's not really a complaint!
