HEARTICAL & BDF presents : "The Know Myself Chronicles"

Once again, Heartical digs deep in the foundation of Jamaican music to bring you another line up of famous & talented vocalists on a classic riddim like“Know Myself”!

Conscious Minds first recorded this rythm as an instrumental titled “Something new” which appeared on their dub album “Gun Court Dub Vol.4” in 1974. Then, Sly & the Revolutionaries turned it into a major hit for Channel One with Ernest Wilson’s “Know Myself” & also Sly’s own instrumlental cut “ A who say!” in 1978.

Now the riddim lives again, thanks to this new version played by the band Basque Dub Foundation (BDF) & the legendary Sly Dunbar O.D himself (out of Sly & Robbie). The line up of artists is made up of a fine choice of artists including legends like Ernest Wilson himself singing over his original hit both solo and in combination with Papa Kojak (out of Kojak & Liza legendary rub a dub duo of the early 80s), the same Kojak also offers a remarkable solo cut (only available from the digital album). Another icon of Jamaican music, Dawn Penn provides the counteraction lyrics to her inmortal “No, no, no” (originally voiced for Studio One & later recut by Steely & Clevie, it sold 2 milllion copies!). Mykal Roze (ex-Black Uhuru lead singer, Grammy Award winner in 1984) releases his seventh single for the Heartical label. Another household name, Joseph Cotton (aka Jah Walton, veteran Jamaican deejay, he recorded for Joe Gibbs, Carlton Patterson, Derrick Harriot, Fashion or Supercat’s Wild Apache label) pays tribute to Sly & Robbie’s achievements.

Heartical label also loves to expose some fresh talents, this is the second single we put out with Zareb (previously known as Mr Flash), there is also another scorcher from Rootsamala (a brother & sister vocal duo from Malaga, Spain). The evergreen General Levy is also in top form delivering another sure shot (World famous for his hits “Incredible”, “Heat” or “The Wig” he recently scored again with “Professional Ganja Smoka”, “Giddeon boot” or “Time Dread” ). The Francophone scene is also well represented with Tiwony (French West Indies) & Original Uman (Belgium), both delivering quality conscious lyrics. The line up is complete with a fine melodica cut & a heavy dub by BDF. All the tracks were mixed at Jamtone Studio in London by Darren Jamtone. The artwork of the album is courtesy of the French artist Dimitri Avramoglou... Enjoy !
