Soul to reggae ID (FAO Gordon or other soul specialist)

Postby JV » Wed Jan 05, 2005 7:47 pm

Just playing Johnnie Taylor's late 60's tune I'm Trying off his Stax album Who's Making love. I'm very sure it's been done as a reggae version but I can't remember who did it, where and when. Can you please help me out of this misery, or should I just insert a dildo like Zoki would advice?

mr soul uprising

i don't know the tunes but checked skaville.de and rkr.

skaville.de lists that alton ellis did "i'm trying to reach my goal" for duke reid in 1968.

rkr lists a 1972 version from alton for s. bryan (big shot), plus versions from delroy wilson (morwell esq.), alpha and the mellow (bulb shot), and bb seaton (studio one 1986).

hope that helps

Thanks, it's that B.B. Seaton record of 1986 now that you mentioned it. Same lyrics but melody is quite different. Now back to that shiny new dildo... ahhh
