Although I have been listening to reggae for many moons, is there any difference in the Toots and the Maytals Funky Kingston albums between the trojan release and the island release apart from the extra track?

I do not know if the current Trojan LP has the same track list as the original, or the UK Island one, but the best 'Funky Kingston' LP release is probably the US Island one (especially if you don't have 'In The Dark') as it carries a good selection from both 'In The Dark' & 'Funky Kingston'.

Side A
1 - Time Tough (In The Dark)
2 - In The Dark (In The Dark)
3 - Funky Kingston (Funky Kingston)
4 - Love Is Gonna Let Me Down (?)
5 - Louie Louie (Funky Kingston)

Side B
1 - Pomp And Pride (Funky Kingston)
2 - Got To Be There (In The Dark)
3 - Country Road (In The Dark)
4 - Pressure Drop
5 - Sailin' On (In The Dark)

Track 4 on side A - if this is also known as 'Love Gonna Walk Out On Me' it's from 'In The Dark' but it could be a totally different track.

when i got this i did some research and found that the best way to get it was the combined Funky Kingston/In the Dark album, released on errr, i think it's island, fantastic value for one cd

As far as I'm aware there are three versions of the Funky Kingston LP.
Trojan with the three of them leaning against a fence sleeve picture. The Island/Dragon issue with the same tracks as Trojan and an excellent poster style sleeve illustration, and lastly Island/Mango in the same Island sleeve but a kinda greatest hits comp inc tracks from In The Dark. These are all 1970's to early 1980's issues.

As Dr. Superlove pointed out, the best value for money edition is the 2003 Island cd-reissue:
1. Sit Right Down
2. Pomp and Pride
3. Louie, Louie
4. I Can't Believe
5. Redemption Song
6. Daddy's Home
7. Funky Kingston
8. It Was Written Down
9. Got to Be There
10. In the Dark
11. Having a Party
12. Time Tough
13. I See You
14. Take a Look in the Mirror
15. Take Me Home, Country Roads
16. Fever
17. Love's Gonna Walk out on Me
18. Revolution
19. 64-46 Was My Number
20. Sailing On
21. Pressure Drop
