Respect to Mohamed I. A great singer and a fantastic, spiritual person. Not too convinced about the productions on that set though. A bit too polished or lightweight most often unfortunately.

from what I read somewhere once it was remixed at least 3 times before being released (making a remix of a remix of a recording).. with the original cuts being superior but never released. I think it was in an interview the Mohammed.

Thanks Edgar. That would explain a lot because the actual arrangements are quite nice it's just the final product which just doesn't click with me.

I got anice dubplate cut with Mohamed I and Ranking Barnabas over the Rumours rhythm called Get Ready. Would like to share a snippet or so but will have to check with him first to see if it's OK. They are doing a wicked combo on it (even though it's mostly an extended cut with deejay following type of thing).

GARLAND JEFFREYS & LKJ - Miami Beach / We The People (Escapades 7" EP / 1981)

Today I found an old cassette containing these tunes, which I used to listen a lot back in the days.
Produced by Dennis Bovell, and voices by LKJ.
I wonder if this was backed by the Dennis Bovell Dub Band, or Jeffreys' own band. Sounds great.
Spoken intro sounds like Michael Smith (?).

Can't stop playing this.

The welcome return of veteran deejay Spragga Benz, who attacks the backing track here with exuberance and experience, and sounds like he's relishing being back in the studio.
The tune is cut on Sting International's Darker Shades rhythm and there are also brilliant cuts by Red Fox (Brooklyn Swing) and Agent Sasco (Conqueror), but having caned them all, I reckon Spragga just about edges it.
