Ghana Soundz Vol 2

Postby DMc » Thu Dec 23, 2004 3:33 pm

The classic Ghana Soundz is spinning on my CD player and it reminds me that I’ve still not gotten vol 2.

How does Soundz 2 rate?

Bedward, any more recommendations for this year? (…don’t tell me you’ve been too busy moving to keep up with the releases?)

Here is a BBC review:

Various Artists, Ghana Soundz Volume 2
(Soundway)
..all but the most obsessive African vinyl hunters will find at least 75% of this immensely enjoyable and a completely new, eye-opening collection

Both Ghana SOundz 2 and Tunde williams - mr big mouth/ lekan animuashan - low profile are big spinners...

however I suggest a slight diversion from "afrobeat"....get the recently released 2 cd comp of Bembeya Jazz classics out now on Sterns
dial africa ben, dial africa

I surely would like to recommend:
Papa Wemba - Mwana Molokai 1977-1997
Bembeya Jazz National - The Syliphone Years

Both 2-cds on Stern's Africa. I Especially like the hard to find compilated singes on those cds.

But to be honest (almost) every release on Stern's Africa is worth a listen.
