Worst cover of a reggae original

Postby Anonymous » Tue Dec 21, 2004 11:08 am

Following on from the post about poor reggae covers of Dylan and the Beatles and so on - I was interested to get your nominations for the worst cover version of a reggae tune.

Although I know its historically significant and its possibly a heretical view, my nomination (off the top of my head) is 'Police and Thieves' - by the Clash.

Don't get me wrong. I do like The Clash a lot. I love London Calling LP. But I can't be dealing with their Junior Murvinocide.

Respects

Baldy.

Ouch!

I just remembered 'The tide Is high' by Atomic Kitten.

Perhaps I shouldn't have started this......

Yes - some proper howlers here:

I just remembered 'What you got' by 'Abs'. A shockingly bad reworking of the Three Piece Suit/Uptown Top Ranking rhythm:

Moreover, they don't credited the Melodians as the original artists !
More-moreover, the lead singer is not the one on the cover photo ! He just sung for the concerts...

You have No Woman No Cry - Boney M too !!! but this one is credited to Bob Marley (even if the real credit goes to Tartar)

Anything by Eric Crapton after Blind Faith deserves to be melted down.

Brent Dowe has received royalties from versions to Rivers Of Babylon (including Boney M) no matter what is written on the credits. Copyright organization BMI credits Dowe & McNaughton as the lcopyright holders of the song. I read an interview of Brent Dowe where he said he has received a nice sum of money from that hit. I think Boney M's main man Frank Farian added his name to the credits as arranger or something and rightfully so.
