record stores in Maui???

Postby I-wan » Mon Dec 20, 2004 4:38 pm

Anyone have the skinny on this question?
It would be nice to find a little dub shack tucked away somewhere on the island. Bit of a Maui vacation for me up ahead.
thanks

Lots of reggae about on the islands...I was in Honolulu earlier this year and it was quite common to hear reggae on the radio stations there while travelling by bus or whatever. More the poppier kind of stuff than we're used to I guess but better than nothing...had a couple of good conversations about reggae with some people I met, who were definitely more knowledgeable about it than the average person on the mainland would be. Never did get around to checking any music stores, unfortunately...

Hey thanks guys.
Any leads are appreciated. I had heard that people in Hawaii were pretty into reggae and supported a lot of local stuff. "Island Roots" eh. I will try to track it down. Even if they sell revive stuff I would be happy.

peace

I have heard from a friend of mine that Ooklah the moc a reggae band from Hawaii may be playing on Jan 1. This band is really crucial roots reggae - Don't write them off based on a non-reggae name or the fact that they may only be "Hawaian reggae". Some on this board may have checked their albums but believe me they are a serious roots band that I have not had the opportunity to see live yet - but eagerly await the chance.
