Bobby Babylon & Bongo Man

Postby kalcidis » Sun May 06, 2018 9:57 pm

A friend of mine who doesn't have access to B&F want to know what the sound quality is like on these two new releases:
https://www.discogs.com/Various-Natural ... e/11896534
https://www.discogs.com/Freddie-McGrego ... e/11739194

One comment over at Discogs – regarding the Bobby Bobylon – says:

Perfect job on the mastering, sounds really nice. /.../ Pressing however... done by GZ Media. Side C and D suffer from non-fill and side C as lots of clicks and pops (at least on my copy)...

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kalcidis- I’ve just received my copy of Bongoman today and atnough I’ve just skimmed through it, to these ears the sound quality sounds pretty good especially considering it’s coloured vinyl. My past experiences of coloured vinyl have been somewhat disappointing in terms of the loudness of the vinyl being somewhat low in comparison to normal pressings.

Just to say that the Bongo Man Collection CD is now readily available from the US via several suppliers on Amazon Marketplace UK (and at reasonable prices).

In passing, I spotted that Mojo Rock Steady (the riddim for Jazzbo's Little Joe) turns out to be the horn riff from Wilson Pickett's Mojo Mama: https://www.whosampled.com/sample/13345 ... Mojo-Mama/ . Didn't know that before.

Hey Dubba, much belated thanks for the info. I just saw your post.

drwatts53: Have you bought the CD? Does it differ in any way from the vinyl compilation?

No, I haven't bought the CD, so can't compare it with the vinyl, sorry. Samples here though https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail ... um/8234182 .
