Rich Man Poor Man

Songs which speak of the contrast between rich and poor.

My favourite has to be "Poor & Humble" by Wayne Wade. Deep lyrics and meaning.

Buju Banton - how massa God world a run.
Brilliant delivery and lyric on a wicked lick of the General riddim. Recorded when he was just 19.

"Where food is concern, there is a problem
Woman cyan find food fi give di children
While the rich man have di chicken back and feed di dog dem
But woe beyond to dem
He who rise against poor people shall perish inna di end"

Wel, i'd rather say that Concrete Castle King is a song sung by DEB, isn't it?
Yami Bolo - Ivory Towers is a great one. Maximum Greedium is another
Cocoa Tea - Mr Necktie Man
Rootsamala - World Crisis

Dennis did a cover of it, but Dean did it first.

Rat a Cut Bottle? This thread is about rich and poor, not just songs about being poor.

I don't know some of these tunes to be honest including Concrete Castle King by Dean Fraser. I'll be straight onto YouTube when I get home from work!

"Isn't it Time to See" by Tetrack on Rockers is another deep tune: "You don't mind, you have enough all the time, so you can't feel the pain of your brother on his knees". The mix on the 7" is different to a stripped back version I've heard. Is that the 12" mix?

I have never been able to find a tune called Trickle Down: "Them say it would a trickle down when it a go reach down town?" On the Global Domination label. The tunes on this label and rhythm were poorly printed and Trickle Down was miscredited to Horace Andy.

There's some difference of opinion on the internet as to what "Rat a Cut Bottle" actually means. I always thought it meant that food was so scarce that rats (probably refers to mice) had to eat bottles. The reason I say this is that I remember my Jamaican relatives saying "cut" in terms of "eat" probably with reference to cutting food with a knife and fork? I could be wrong though.
