Dread Lion - other DJ/vocal cuts than Prince Jazzbo's?

Postby capullo » Sun Sep 03, 2017 5:48 pm

Are there any other deejay or vocal versions on the "Dread Lion" rhythm? I only know the fantastic "Natty Pass Thru Rome" with the great late Prince Jazzbo on the mic. Others?

You have a rare vocal cut by Dean Frazier – Concrete Castle King (Black Explosion 7") which Earl Sixteen also re-recorded later over the original rhythm.

There's also this next cut by Early Sixteen from the Phoenix of Peace album.

Great page! It made me very curious (since I can't check the sample now) but does it say there's a Heptones vocal cut? Or is that the same Dread Lion cut as on the LP?

The 7'' has a vocal by the Heptones, but the version is not the right dub, it's the "Dread Lion" version

Oh. Such a fine rhythm and would have loved to find a cut I hadn't heard. Thanks for the answer.

Great site for quick referencing upsetter riddims.

Forgot about that Earl Sixteen - Pheonix of Peace album - must dig it out the weekend. Some interesting stuff on there and oddly doesn't get a mention in the Kiss Me Neck discography

I guess it was a bit iffy. All vocals with the exception of one or so were recorded in the 90's I think. Similar to that Mike Brooks set.

Never heard the Mike Brooks one - any good?

I like hearing different cuts on upsetter tracks
