I see you're from Sweden : Don't forget to play the soon-to-be-released Junior Natural work

Well.... the fact is we play VERY little Swedish reggae and dancehall.
Simply because, very little of it can compete with Jamaican made music.
Time is always limited, so a song played means others NOT played.
And with that limit, it's very hard to argue for playing Swedish music.

The only arguments I can think of are not valid IMO:
That people want to hear it - most don't.
That we know the people behind it - nepotism is ugly.
From a sense of nationalistic pride - to hell with that.

My only argument was that I really appreciate the samples I've heard. Nice singjay style with topatop Sly & Robbie backing

If you conduct blind test auditions, nobody will ever identify Junior Natural as Swedish, and most will say he's from JA

Especially if you play them the album he recorded at Anchor under the guidance of Robbie Shakespeare

try it, you'll be surprised

Anything that's good or big, dancehall-wise all the Kartel, Mavado, Masicka, etc etc. Reggae-wise the Marleys, Chronixx, Kabaka, Protoje, and such.

Plus a healty selection of big tunes and favorites from the 80s and 90s. We seldom get to play anything older than that, but we have all that stuff (I have lots and lots on vinyl), both 60s and 70s, and when a chance to play that comes along, we take it with pleasure and excitement! For instance, I played not long ago as a guest at a 60s/skinnhead dance with a sound/crew that specializes in that and that alone. I've played a number of events like that, and I love nothing more, but it is still rare for us/me.

As a fellow Swede I am also a bit curious, but more about where it is you're usually playing? Maybe you are someone I'm aware of (would you care to mention your Sound's name)?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree here, I think his singing style is in a very typical Swedish style, a style that I have a very hard time with, I would never mistake him for a Jamaican singer. The music is great, no doubt about it, but I am not into his vocals, and I'm sorry to say I have trouble getting into any Swedish artist, much as I'd like to... :(

Ah, yes recognize that name, not sure if I have heard/seen you, it would in that case have been if you have played at any event in Stockholm where I've been. I was supposed to go to Vinterviken recently, where I believe you were on the bill (Junior Natural too), but I never made it there.

Ok, well that wouldn't have been me anyway :)
We have a younger team who does most of those type of dates nowadays.
Old man stays at home :D
Only when I get a chance to play my old vinyls I am really excited!
I have played a couple of times with Bangarang Hifi, if you know them.

Yes, I know them, or know of them rather, I follow them on Facebook, again not really sure if I have actually been at an event where they played, I can never remember these things, must be a long time ago in that case. I don't live in Stockholm, so I just follow everyone I can think of and go to whatever I can find that is on when I'm there. Speaking of Facebook, right after I wrote my previous reply in this thread there you were, appearing in my Facebook feed (commenting on Gregory Isaacs' latter day vocal abilities.) :)

I am a member of several groups for the same reasons as I mentioned, to keep up to date with what's going on, I never post anything, so you wouldn't find me there.
