Yes big Courtney John fan here. He carries on the great tradition of Jamaican falsetto singers.

His new album 'Ecosystem' is a really strong set of cool laid back roots reggae. Currently available on download and due for a vinyl release at the end of the month...

Cheers,
Ian

I discovered him recently, thanks to post here on the forum actually, and I thoroughly enjoyed both his latest, Ecosystem, as well as one called From Letters To Words (I guess the latter is his previous release, but it seems it's only available as download/stream).

In between those two albums he also recorded an album under the title of The Courtney John Project, where he teamed up with Stephen Lenky Marsden and The Wizard for an experimental mash-up of reggae, dub, dance, dubstep etc....

You can check out the tunes here... https://soundcloud.com/the-courtney-john-project/sets/the-future

But if From Letters To Words is more to your taste, then also look out for the Made In Jamaica album which features the stunning Lucky Man.

Cheers,
Ian

Thanks for the tip, I will check out The Courtney John Project. I did listen to all his albums on Spotify (including Made In Jamaica) and even though the earlier albums were good they were in a different style (he seems to experiment with new styles on each album) that didn't catch my ear in the same way. The thing about the two I mentioned is that so much of it has an Early Reggae (or sometimes Rocksteady) sound, and not just the songs stylistically but they also have an old fashioned sound the way it's produced, it's very well done, and then his Slim Smith like vocal on top of it.

I don't know much of his stuff, but he contributes a couple of excellent vocals to this mostly instrumental album, which I'd highly recommend.

Let's not forget that Courtney John goes way back to late 90's when he started his FiWi label under the name Yogie, more dancehall oriented material but some good tunes as well

Big fan here ! Wouldn't say a lot of (well, there were not a lot, really) his earlier tunes on Fi Wi Music were dancehall - or what it means today. It was dancehall reggae, plain and simple. i love singers who can really sing and be versatile in the content of their lyrics. My fave tune is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKtIa3ruyDY
Btw, in case some people didn't know, CJ is Beres Hammond's nephew. Another of BH's nephew released a couple of tunes on CJ's label, Len(n) Hammond back in the 90's, good singer too. Besides it all, The Wizard is none other than his cousin, that is BH's daughter. Really talented, with ground-breaking ideas, but not in the reggae field.
Still have to get into CJ's new album but it's growing on me.
