You have the Studio 1 /Treasure Isle (on High Note, mostly), which takes the original track and overdubs more instuments. Can work, but quite often sounds weird IMO.

You got that right!

You are basically asking the difference b/t rocksteady/early reggae and rockers (?!) - the riddums (instruments) parts are all just played at least a little differently - otherwise, the music would just sound the same and would not have evolved........what I think is so dope are the many original Duke Reid/Treasure Isle label tunes from the 60s which, upon being controlled by Sonia Pottinger, got dubbed (on the Treasure Isle dub series); and in some cases, these tunes became 12"s in the 70s, w/ a new mix of the original tune (mostly likely by Errol T), as well as a dub version (a different mix than the Treasure Isle dub LP series)....I havent seen too many of these....I would love to see a heavyweight collector/poster on here post a list of all of these 12s that are known....if there are 1 or 2, that means there must be a bunch more floating around out there....?

RG say

Oh dear,
Well back on topic,

Au contraire RG … depend how ya define ‘topic’ but IMO analyzing bpm, chords, song structure and electronics alone will never peni, for example, how the Manning brothers & others took it from the wonderful of one era

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAEISo3SK_Y

to the even more wonderfuller of the next generation

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE3qYbB_7-E

is about the ebb & flow of social (and dare mi say spiritual) evolution upon this Urth up to this day when the heights & inspiration of the previous generation now shape-shift 2,000 steps backwierd into today’s anti-culture where it stoop so low, the danceHELL encouraging little pre-pubescent children to publicly dagger in the Saturday night street session … and some of the roots warriors trying their musical best but few got the same fire in the belly as their parents & grandparents ... and where to today Jamaica tragically has the 4th highest murder rate pon this planet (outside declared war zones) and on that small island of 2 ¾ million population there are over 5,000 missing children.

In mi quest to peni the deeper intangibles of the music, please excuse my impertinence for asking: “who put the bomp in the ramma ramma ling dong” … I’ll never do it again but I can’t help but wonder if the "Oogum Boogum Cast A Spell ..." got a deeper level than the boy/girl thing

So as well as updated instruments, studios / equipment, arrangements and more confidence, there's a metaphysical element that can't be defined.

Not only do some of those come with a dub , but also with a dj version

Shame, I didn't realise you were talking about these! I thought they were completely new recordings. You Make Me Happy is one of my all time favourite tunes. I thought you were referring to some of those dodgy Peckings do-overs.

Ok, now we're talking. The B sides of some of the Treasure Isle 12s are also brilliant. Can't remember which ones but Baby I Love You / You Me Happy have Shank I Sheck / The Whip on the flip side.

I still think that You Make Me Happy is a "new" recording. Sounds quite different to the original.
