jimmy cliff & roots radics in chicago

Anyone notice this item in recent Ernie B catalogue?

Can this be for real? Anyone actually hear it? I never knew jimmy cliff to be backed by radics, I wonder if its a misconception based on his song Roots Radical? Evidently it was a radio broadcast but aside from his obvious songs I don't recognize the other tracks. Very interesting, one of the most interesting (potentially, anyway) items from ernie lately.

Seems unlikely to me as radics formed around 1978? Probably wouldnt have been big enough to tour to the states in 1978. Does it sound like them?

I find it very unlikely too, that's why I am asking. Ernie does not seem to have any samples up probably because its a bargain basement item, and those photos on the back are not very enlightening (cliff with ron wood and keith Richards? and typical radics promotional photos more from the mid 80s).

Is not the Roots Radics band. The musicians on that photo ( Style, Flabba, Bingy Bunny, Dwight Pickney, Steelie) don't play on that live recording.

How do you know that Inyaki, I mean besides the sound if you have ever heard the cd? Because that's what I think too, its pure BS. But I was wondering if you had some actual info on the release and not just a feeling. If they are not on it, I wonder where the producers of this set got the idea they were? As far as I know Jimmy Cliff never performed with the Radics but I was prepared to be surprised...guess not.

Greetings,

i've listened to the cd and in the last track The Harder They Come Jimmy lists the players
it's the Oneness Band
drums: Ronny Murphy, bass: Gibby Morrison, rhythm guitar: Leonard Smith, percussion: Sticky,
lead guitars: Chinna & Ernest Ranglin, keyboards: Pablo Smith & congos: Rebop Kwaaku Baah.

And as you know in 1978 the Roots Radics weren't founded yet.

Peace,
Don Julian

that's what I thought at well, in fact I don't even think the Arabs were founded yet...and I think the Arabs were the first incarnation of Radics, to back Prince Fari on a UK/European tour.

So its all a fraud, kinda seemed like it from the start. That's what happens when you have rock oriented labels(?) or people putting out reggae music, they don't know their asses from a hole in the ground a lot of times.

Radics backing Jimmy Cliff, what a joke.

Actually it is a badass idea come to think of it
He did "Give the people what they want" with the TAXI Gang in 81 or so and it sounded like a Black Uhuru album as far as the riddims were concerned. So a record with the Radics in 82 would have been interesting.

He did a couple of tunes with Niney recently with Sly on drums and Flabba on bass...

I wasn't saying radics backing jimmy cliff was a joke in concept, it is a joke that this cd is purporting to be that but instead is actually who you would expect to be backing jimmy cliff: his touring band of the time. That's why I brought this set up to begin with; if it really was radics backing jimmy cliff, maybe just some strange one-off date, maybe just for the radio broadcast it originated from (according to the same notes that claim it is radics backing jimmy cliff, I should add) I would buy it just to hear it. But...no.
