Promised Land Riddim

Postby supplanter » Sat Apr 15, 2017 4:11 am

The new Anthony Que tune Water of Life got me searching thru my collection for other cuts on Dennis Brown/Aswad Promised Land/Dub Fire riddim. I thought I had more, but the tunes I have and really rate are Stevie Dread - Just Reality, Chronicle - Diamond & Gold, and Sizzla - Catch the Place a Fire. Chaka Demus - Get Up Stand Up and General Degree - See & Blind are also good. Any other cuts worth seeking out?

Yes those Xterminators are excellent, think the first to emerge was Mighty Diamonds Seven Ways from Sundown, couple of years later Luciano Mus Raggamuffin, Tanya Stephens No More Lies and others.

Thanks for the suggestions. There were a few that I was not aware of…including the D Brown re-cut. I have that Luciano, and totally forgot about it. What a great mix. I'm going to have to seek out the other Xterminator 7s.

Funny some of the Reggae Central cuts make me cringe, they get the horns wrong and it sound to me like two tapes playing out of sync (Sizzla, Luciano). Other cuts on the same label (Mykal Rose) get it right

Here is the BDF / Heartical version of that riddim : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZMDW0caoqA

4 singles on that label.

Also a cut on Black Scorpio. One of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-cIEJcdT5Y
A much versioned riddim, actually. Can't help thinking of a fine Lloyd Brown song, title eludes me.

Thanks again for the responses. Another 12" on this riddim: Abeng - Banana Man. I pulled it for something I am doing this weekend, and recognized that was the riddim.
