So many songs borrow melodies and lyrics from the good ol' mento and calypso days.

Just heard one last night: Uniques: Watch This Sound, a kinda embarrassing repurpose of Buffalo Springfield's For What Its Worth. I say kinda embarrassing because I used to always cringe when I heard the mangled lyrics, but now I kinda like it.

Wayne Smith - Wanted uses the melody of Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard by Paul Simon.
I'll listen to the Wayne Smith 100 times before I'll want to hear the Paul Simon, though!

I don't recall what it was in buffalo soldier but I recall another Marley single that borrowed liberally from The Hills Are Alive with the sound of music. I am listening to something else right now so my mind wont sync with what the tune is right now but it will...I think it also was on Confrontation. One of my favorite Marley records by the way, a little more than a little ironic.

Nope, its kind of the interlude in the chorus of Trenchtown. Remembered as soon as the herb wore off.

Heard the Candy Man Can by Sammy Davis Junior on TV this morning and the melody bugged me for a while but I got it. General Trees used it in Gone A Negril.

Get a passport for my baby,
And get it stamped tonight,
Say she want to go to Canada
On the Negril flight.
